The real tourist attraction of Murwillumbah is its proximity to five World Heritage-listed National Parks.
Closest to Murwillumbah are the Mt Warning National Park and the Border Ranges National Park.
Mt Warning National Park offers walking tracks, the most popular to the top of the mountain, and barbecue and picnic facilities.
The Border Ranges National Park is huge and is traversed by the 64km Tweed Range Scenic Drive.
The park offers spectacular views, walking tracks and two camping areas.
In Murwillumbah the most outstanding tourist attraction is the world-renowned Tweed River Art Gallery on Mistral Road just south of the town.
The gallery has magnificent views over the Tweed River and Valley towards
Mt Warning.
It has two collection themes: One, Australian portraits of all eras and
media, of which the gallery has a superb collection and, two, works by
local artists which reflect aspects of life in the area.
The gallery also houses an education and workshop area and four exhibition spaces which show an ever-changing variety of visiting exhibitions.
Other tourist attractions in area are the Murwillumbah Museum on Queensland Road, the Condong Sugar Mill, Madura Tea Estates on Clothiers Creek Road and Tropical Fruit World at Duranbah.
